These two botanical gardens are just over a mile apart from each other and make for a great day trip to see some of the world’s more beautiful plants.
The Regional Parks Botanic Garden is a 10-acre botanical garden located in Tilden Regional Park in the Berkeley Hills, east of Berkeley, California. It is a naturally beautiful and tranquil living museum of California native plants and an enchanting sanctuary for many of the state’s rare and endangered plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses from plant communities throughout the state.
The UC Berkeley Botanic Garden was established in 1890 and is a 34-acre garden with over 10,000 types of plants including many rare and endangered species. Organized geographically, the Garden features (9) regions of naturalistic plantings from Australasia to South Africa, along with a major collection of California native plants. The Garden has a diverse living collection of plants, supports teaching and worldwide research in plant biology, furthers the conservation of plant diversity, and promotes public understanding and appreciation of plants and the natural environment.
